Returning to the UK from Canada

The Brief

Following the success with a previous Assignee, the HR Department of a global corporation approached Accent Relocation to relocate a British couple back to the UK after spending years living and working in Toronto, Canada.

The couple were excited and enthusiastic about their move, but along with this came some reservations about finding the most suitable property; they had concerns with the amount of furniture and goods that they were returning with, including 2 scooters.

Accent Relocation reassured the couple that these requirements would be a top priority of the search brief, enabling the search to evolve around properties with excellent storage and garage space. Further to these requirements, Accent Relocation discussed the individual desires of the couple to help tailor their search. It was established that the property had to be unfurnished to house the couple’s possessions and that they would prefer a quiet area near to efficient transport links.

After an in depth conversation discussing  the location, it was decided that  central Reading and surrounding areas would be most appropriate as it offered a reasonable commute time to both London and Oxford, as well as being a familiar area to the Assignee.

The Process

To help ensure that the search brief was completed to the finest detail, Accent Relocation’s Search Consultant conducted a detailed conference call with the Assignee to offer the best solutions for the couple’s goods, with ideas such as an apartment in Reading City centre next to the train station with safe storage close by, along with discussing alternative commute options.

Accent Relocation also produced a commute schedule with regards to visiting relatives in Richmond, to assist in the transition back to the UK.

It was quickly established that the couple preferred a house opposed to an apartment, which helped to narrow down the search further. Accent Relocation’s Search Consultant was able to use her expertise of the local area and experience within the property market to select a range of properties suitable to the couple.

It was not long before an off-market property was identified as the Assignees favoured property. The house fitted the couple’s requirements perfectly; within cycling distance of a train station, a high specification finish, significant storage space and set back from the road. The Search Consultant was requested to secure the property as quickly as possible and commence with the negotiation.

Successful Relocation

Accent Relocation used their experience to negotiate terms on the property and to secure the property before it had been released onto the open market.

The Assignee was delighted with the house and surprised to be able to secure such a great property on the first day of the home search when there was such limited stock in the market.

Additionally, it wasn’t necessary for the Assignee to move into corporate housing whilst waiting for the right property to become available.
